Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund is proud to announce that Canadian cyclist Karol-Ann Canuel has been awarded the inaugural Shannon Rogers Roy Award for Courage, Generosity, and Vision in Canadian Cycling.

The award honours the memory of Shannon Rogers Roy, founder and former president of Global Relay, whose leadership and generosity were instrumental in creating Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund.

Presented annually, the award recognizes a female Canadian racer (active or retired), who demonstrates courage, leadership, and a commitment to advancing cycling in Canada. The award provides financial support for the recipient to pursue a leadership or development initiative that will have a lasting impact on Canadian competitive cycling and its athletes.

A three-time World Champion & Olympian, Canuel is recognized not only for her achievements on the bike, but also for her integrity, teamwork, mentorship, and continued contribution to Canadian cycling. As the inaugural recipient, Canuel will use the award to support her work with the Tour de Gatineau, one of Canada’s premier international women’s cycling events.

"This award was created to honour Shannon’s legacy of leadership and generosity," said Leah Kirchmann, Managing Director of Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund. "Karol-Ann represents those same values, both through her accomplishments and the way she has lifted others in the sport and created opportunities for Canadian riders. She is the ideal first recipient of this award."

Cycling has given me so much throughout my career, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the sport,” said Canuel. “Through the Tour de Gatineau, we want to provide women with a world-class stage to compete, inspire young riders to dream bigger, and help build a stronger future for women’s cycling in Canada.”

Applications for the 2027 Shannon Rogers Roy Award are now open until November 1, 2026. Current or retired female Canadian cyclists are encouraged to apply. Applications are also open for BTG athlete grants, mentorship, and special project grants at grbridgethegap.com/apply.
