Almost a year went by without lining up for a real bike race. I LOVE racing so much!
I don’t have the fitness I used to have and I’m far from being anything close to "skilled" on these trail sections (7 class-4 unmaintained road sections that were more like a mud fest!)
BUT, the feeling of turning yourself inside out EVERY time you see a rider up the road!!! I just went for it, fullgas! From start to finish!
I think gravel is a lot harder than road because there is no rest, theres no sitting in the pack and waiting for action. Its a real attrition race (oh my favorite kind️).
Its pace management and intake management.
I’m pretty happy with 11th place! (Results don’t matter she said… sprinting to the finish line… yeah right!! ) haha… (Actually very far from the winner time but let’s just ignore that for a sec)
You know what’s the most fun part? Its to progress. 2 weeks ago I came to see the course (overcoming fear with preparation) and I completed the course in 6 hours (my fastest time of 3 attempts)
Yesterday, I crossed the line in 4h30.
That’s like 25% faster! I went into those mud pitt FULLGAS because I knew I was able to stay upright from having practicing it. I was way more confident navigating the rocks. I can’t believe how I rode some sections!
Ah well, thanks Vermont Overland and see you next year!!
Massive thanks to Cycles Campus Sutton for gearing me up with the best gravel bike and allowing me to take the start. Im so happy. I love this bike so much it makes me want to ride through anything!
Haha okay thank you - end of the race report.
If you want a gravel bike that can fly through mud pitt like mine, give a call to Cycle Campus in Sutton. New bike shop, great people, great service. Follow them, thank you.
