Well… To be honest I don’t really know what to say about last weekend.
I was pretty conflicted about posting this, maybe this will be wrongly interpreted by some but
10 + years in the sport, yet I have never experienced something quite like this.
One part of me is proud about this group of female cyclist and the other is sad for the repercussions the events at Le Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées has had on the organization and the smaller teams affected.
To be honest I’m relieved we didn’t accept the conditions given to us and stood up for ourselves. This doesn’t happen very often.
BTW this race organization is far from the only one who fails to provide safe race courses, but they did cross the threshold and I think every race organizers should look at this as a reminder of what are the most important aspects of organizing bike races on open roads! Rolling enclosure can be done in a much MUCH safer way, we never asked for fully closed courses.
