Photo evidence that I did start the Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol.
Unfortunately I decided to not take the start of stage 2 today. I contracted a stomach bug on Monday AM this week. After making a failed attempt to to drive down to the airport with Guillaume Boivin on Monday I called my directors on Israel Premier Tech and coach Paulo Saldanha to inform them that I couldn’t race. It was a tough call as I really wanted to kick-off the season, but with the state that I was in, it was the right call.
However, I got some food in me and slept a ton, and the next day while walking around Andorra La Vella, I thought “why am I not doing this race?” So, I found a 9:30 PM flight, booked it, drove down the mountain, caught the flight and arrived at the race hotel at 1AM the morning of stage 1. The goal was to just survive the opening day and hope that I had made a sufficient recovery to be good for the following stages… this didn’t happen. I suffered all day, couldn’t eat sufficiently and after the stage the old stomach bug reared it’s ugly head.
I’m feeling fine now, but just need a few more days of recovery. Next up Gran Camino next week.
