Race Report from Charlevoix!

« It was a good weekend for me but here’s my recap beyond results!

Friday criterium, the action started from the gun with Équipe Cycliste Desjardins-Ford riding agressively and Équipe Cycliste Féminine - 3S communications p/p Cycle Néron getting in the mix. It’s only later in the race, once a few matches were burnt, that I was able to escape and building my lead in a moment where teams looked at each other. I held it off for the remaining of the 7 laps!

Kuddos to Jackie Peters from Club Cycliste Dynamiks de Contrecœur for winning the bunch sprint, impressive ride in her first racing season!

Saturday in the Time Trial, I came with a mission and delivered! I thought it would be hard to make time on this flat and short course, but I was actually pleased with my performance (winning by 1min22). I’m just amazed at how my preparation and execution is kind of just flowing, effortlessly. More than ever I'm feeling like I’m owning/mastering every aspect of it. Let’s see how far I can still push my TTs in the future! Jackie and Lucy Hempstead, from Toronto Hustle, completing the podium, both in their first racing season.

Saturday PM, in the hill climb, Clara Émond, a triathlete (who just decided to try a cycling race) surprised everyone by climbing away in the steep part of the climb. Couple of meters behind, Kaitlyn Rauwerda, Nicole Bradbury (junior) and Frédérique Larose-Gingras were following on the top of the first section, I had to ditch my pacing plan and go with them. Clara kept her lead and won! Wow, impressive ride! (Missing Lucy from the top results because caught in a crash)

The road race had a similar outcome with Clara showcasing her strength and endurance in dominating the climbs. Only Kaitlyn, Nicole (junior) and myself were able to follow. Earlier in the race though, I was happy to see good tactics being used by devo teams, Desjardins were agressive, ECF and Dynamiks were positioning themselves at the right time. You could see riders communicating.

It just reminded me of my first time in Charlevoix, one of my very first race in 2012, when I had no idea what I was doing. Many of the riders did a LOT better than I did at the time! Nobody ever told me I could win this race one day. So I’m telling you YOU CAN TOO (if you want!)

I decided to go car-camping this season to keep things fun, relaxed and record-breaking cheap! Haha! Spending 4 days in nature was actually so good, with my hammock! I'm keeping this strategy! »
