No luck for me at the Imola 2020 World Championships

« No luck for me on Saturday at the Imola 2020 World Championships. Was caught in a minor fall at the beginning of the race, until I realized my brake was on the rim and my derailer bent.

I stopped to fix the brake, but with no spare bike, what do I do? Damn it. This is impossible… the scenario I had visualized all week… gone.

No radio were allowed so I can’t tell my team car. I decide to keep riding - what else can I do? Until we hit the first steep pitches. My chain jumping all over the place I can’t stand, I’m going to break something! Ok no this won’t do it.

So I called my team with no idea how we can fix it in so little time. On these tiny roads, the car can’t pass, it’s taking time. Each second that passes I see the race going away. Maybe, maybe if we can stop at the top I could motor pace on the short flat stretch between the 2 hills.

Mechanic comes and force it back in place (what!!) It kind of worked, alright let’s try to get back in the race! I tried as hard as I could… until there were no car left… and no watt left… all I’m left with is the realization that my race is over.. I broke in tears on the course… this is impossible… I didn’t even race!

A very disappointing outcome, very hard to swallow… but also a big learning experience in many ways.

All week, just to be there with more experienced riders was super insightful. I actually took notes of a few new things I can incorporate in my preparation!

A big thank you to Cycling Canada for this opportunity to come and fight, and learn, and thank you to the staff for the amazing support we had all week. Shawn, Steve, Wes, Zane, John, Jess and Kev back in Canada, what a team, thanks everyone! »
