Veloselect travelled out to Joe Martin Stage Race UCI 2.2 for it's first major goal of the 2019 season. It is always hard going into a UCI with so little race days, but the team fared well. William, Alexandre, Dominic, Michael and Matthew were helped by a tremendous local staff of Mark Cumberbatch (UCI DS), Adam McCall (who generously hosted us in his home with his beautiful family) and Brad Schrag, tremendous mechanic. We loved the Southern hospitality and got to pre-ride most of the courses, even jumping into a local training ride with juniors. We had guest riders coming all the way from Taiwan. One advantage of having guest riders is that you get some real international cycling experiences. For example, Paul, our rider from Taiwan is a part-time chef and cooked us some Taiwanese dishes! Results wise, the team suffered some mishaps in the cold stage 1 road race. We were very happy with UCI stage race finishes from Alex Latil, Dominic Hamelin and William Goodfellow. They fulfilled our goals of building fitness into UCI objectives to come. Alexandre comes away with a top 30 in the Joe Martin uphill time trial.
Our calendar then shifted to the start of our local racing. The team racked up 5th (William Goodfellow) in Albany NY, 4th (William Goodfellow) Mosport Ocup 1 and 4th (Alexandre Latil) GP Ste-Martine. We are happy with the start of the season and believe we are already punching above our weight!
Our month ended with the team presentation @ le club Espresso Bar, a renown Montreal cycling hub. Sponsors, friends, family all came out to celebrate the hard work of our team owners and show their appreciation to the athletes. We would like to thank all sponsors who generously provided us with some prizes for the event. I would personally like to thank Tino Rossi JR, voice of the famous Mardis de Lachine, who made the night a hit with his humor. This was an important first step for us and something we want to repeat year over year.
