In the past two years, we’ve been struggling at keeping the same high fitness we come with in September all the way to worlds in February. So this year, we planned differently.
After world cup Tabor we took a week off. 1-2 easy mtb ride for fun, but less than 4 h of training for the week. Then, straight into a 3 week training camp where we emphasized our training towards worlds champs.
We put in good hours at the start of the camp, very solid intensity overload in the middle and less volume+more quality in the last week.
The goal was for Maghalie to get a good amount of hours in, get tired (with peak fatigue at Resolution Cross Cup to work on race tactics and skills when tired) and then to higher quality and lower load to feel better and better every workout until the Christmas Period.
I can safely say that it’s been a solid and very well executed block by Magh and we’re back to a level of fitness that is even higher than coming into the season.
Best ever 1 min power was established this morning on a flat road and season best 20 to 60 min were also crushed in the past 10 days.
Now we’re excited to head over to Europe to race and see what we need to fine tune before worlds.
We said it back in May, we targeted 2 races this year, Jinglecross & Worlds.
The decisions that we make are all according to those two races. We’ll be in Belgium only for ten days over the holidays and then we get back to training for Worlds.
The goal over the holidays is the get an idea of where we stand with fitness/skills/tactics and get some quality, high pressure races in.
Our program is Namur (Dec 22), Zolder (Dec 25), Loenhout (Dec 27) and Diegem (Dec 29).
For the number dudes wondering what is Magh’s peak 1 min power, I’ll put it that way. If you’re 170 pounds, you would have to put out 842W to stay with her for a minute. Who wants to come and train with her?
