Montreal, September 10, 2017 - Silber Pro Cycling has resigned is core development riders for 2018. Alec Cowan, Stephen Bassett, Pier-André Côté, Nicolas Masbourian, Nickolas Zukowsky, Adam Roberge and Marc-Antoine Soucy have all committed to Canada's #1 development team for 2018.
After a stellar 2016, Silber graduated 3 riders to larger programs then signed a young, promising core group of riders. After finishing 12th at the 2016 U23 ITT World Championships, 20 year old Albertan, Alec Cowan, won Stage 3 at the Tour de Beauce and the KOM at the Tour of Alberta in 2017. American Stephen Bassett finished 2nd at 2 stages of the GP Saguenay, was 4th at a stage of Cascades, wore the young rider jersey at Gila and represented the USA at the Tour de l'Avenir.
The team will also have all three Canadian U23 Champions at the start line in 2018: Marc-Antoine Soucy won the Road Race (2nd overall); Adam Roberge won the ITT and Pier-André Côté won the Criterium. Nicolas Masbourian's season was cut short with a concussion but "Masbou" and Nick Zukowsky are considered two of the most promising Canadian prospects in the peloton.
"This is a great group of bike racers and off the bike they get along so well," said the team's GM, Scott McFarlane. "Throughout the year our young riders have showed significant sparks of potential–such as winning National titles–and Cowan in particular had spectacular moments for a rider of his age. I can't wait to see what they do now that they know the races on our calendar and have had a year learning race craft from Gord Fraser."
Cowan, Soucy and Côté are currently representing Canada at the World Tour races in Quebec and Montreal. And the youngest rider in the race, Côté, was in the break of the day in Quebec. All three will be joined by Nickolas Zukowsky as part of Team Canada's U23 team at the World Championships in Norway.
"So we have this promising core in place" added McFarlane. "The goal for Silber in 2018 is to provide the racing platform and leadership to build the consistency required for success in the short stage races on the UCI America Tour. I'm confident our team will offer a couple of these guys opportunities to elevate to the next level after one more year with us. In fact I'm really proud of the fact that this group signed on as a whole because they believed our team was the right vehicle for them to achieve their goals. It's a testament to how well everyone got along this year: riders, staff and management. It also says something about our ability to identify, recruit and develop talent. As I've said repeatedly, we're building something here. And we will be announcing exciting new signings shortly, as I finalize our roster over the next few weeks. Stay tuned!"
