Dear friends of Irena,
The medical team decided that Irena's condition was good enough to move her to Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital! The rehabilitation program, located here in Albuquerque, helps individuals recovering from illness or injury to return to the highest quality of life possible. This afternoon Irena was moved.
A small bump on the road yesterday(Friday, November 24th). Irena's friend Sarah Muench, who came from Phoenix to visit her, noticed the base of her left thumb was bruised and swollen. Irena's hand was X-rayed and we were informed Irena had a severely dislocated thumb. They attempted to place the thumb back in its socket, but had to give up due to Irena's extreme pain. She is scheduled for surgery to fix the thumb next week.
Yesterday, with Sarah and her good friend from high school Vicky Macias, Irena went on a short wheelchair ride on the 4th floor corridor. She had some words and smiled with them, but some of her words did not make sense. We are all looking forward to the next step in Irena's recovery at Lovelace UNM Rehabilitation Hospital, which has a strong brain injury program to help her brain re-acquire lost functions.
Hope and love»
