Pretty nasty crash for Guillaume Boivin

« Our leader of the Tour of Taihu Lake, Guillaume Boivin, has suffered from a pretty nasty crash but was able to hold into his precious orange jersey in the end of the 113 km stage 1.

The crash occurred in km 30, and unfortunately it also involved our Dutch Dennis van Winden. But both recovered and with some help from their friends were able to rejoin the peloton.

« I crashed pretty hard, and hit my knee and left arm quite good » said the Canadian.

We still had to work hard to make sure that a breakaway of 7 riders will not get too far. Mexican Luis Enrique Lemus and Israeli Itmar Einhorn were promptly sent to the front. “They both did a great job” said our DS Oscar Guerrero.

When the breakaway finally collapsed, Oscar decided to sprint with our Estonian Mihkel Räim , considering Guillaume’s crash bruises. Miku was only able to secure 8th place. “Went too early” explained Oscar. “But still good as we still keep the leader’s and young rider jersey”.

Guillaume was definitely relieved to keep his lead and was optimistic looking forward to tomorrow’s 117 km flat stage: « I was still feeling quite strong after the crash, so should be ok to continue and fight for the victory. The guys rode quite good today and we will fight back tomorrow. »
