Another day in the sun & really good climbs just finished in day 3 of the Race across America. Our riders are starting to feel their legs. They have been doing short exchanges (every 2 miles) between duet of 2 when they’re on the road.
Jean-Pierre, who’s been really consistant on the bike, says he felt his legs were at 60% of power after it last shift. He still believe that his body is handleling well the heat even if they aren’t use to it. Jonathan, on his hand, came back from his shift a little tired, but still really strong on his bike after 6 hours. (They’re really impressives!)
Nicholas had a little leg sore for the first hour of his shift but felt great rapidly on the bike. His bike partner, David, who was the most affected by the weather, is been cooling down with wet towel and the team even used sport bras to help hold ice close to his skin.
The daily routine work by 12 hours shifts. When they ride, one stay in the follow vehicule the other ride for 1-3 miles. In the car, they’ve been eating and drinking properly even if the hunger isn’t really present for this short period of time in between high intensity interval. When they arrive to the RV, they clean up, drink a protein smoothie and eat a real meal! Then, they sleep for the next 5 hours or so.
We rent a room so the crew and racers could took a quick shower.
The route has been really intense with big climbs in Utah and in Colorado. The night are cooler now and we reached the high point of the RAAM in Pagosa Springs at 10 856 m of elevation above the sea.
