What.A.Race.
Christian Gow (17/20), 13th and Jules Burnotte + SPORT (15/20), 18e, both beat their bib numbers Friday in the Men's Mass Start, the last biathlon race at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.
Scott Gow (13/20) placed 25th.
The 3 Canucks gave fans plenty of emotions throughout the race. Things really started at the 1st prone. Scott Gow, who had bib 21, cleaned to move from 23rd to 3rd and brother Christian, bib 25, also cleaned to move from 24th to 2nd!
Shortly after (see photo in other post), the most surreal moment of the whole race: we had two Canadians, Scott and Christian, in the lead!
Norwegian J.T. Boe took the lead before the 2nd visit at the range, where catastrophe hit Scott. He missed 4 to drop to 25th, while Christian cleaned again to move from 6th back into 2nd behind Boe.
Meanwhile Jules Burnotte, who had started 29th, was skiing fast, but missed 2 then 1 so after 2 shootings, he was doing his thing in 26th place.
Up ahead Christian was keeping us at the edge of our seat. He cleaned his 3rd shoot to move him into 4th, only 17,8 s off the gold medal, less than one penalty loop!
Then came the last standing shoot where he clicked into the wind 3 times through sudden wind gusts. That pushed him back and he crossed the finish line in 13th, still a superb Olympic result.
Jules missed 1 in both his last shootings, but made up with his ski speed. His last loop was impressive: 14th overall to move him from 23rd to 18. A top 20 in his first Olympics! And he's only 25 years old!
Scott missed 2 and 1 in his last two visits at the range and finished 25th overall. He was the fastest overall shooter followed by... Jules Burnotte and J.T. Boe.
Boe (16/20) won gold thanks to his ski speed, his 4th gold medal of the Games. He's a legend for sure! Martin Ponsiluoma (SWE - 18/20) got silver and V.S. Christiansen (NOR - 17/20) got the bronze.
