Émilie Heymans was born in Belgium on December 14, 1981. She now lives in Saint-Lambert near Montreal. She studies in fashion marketing at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She has been diving since 1993. Her coach is Yihua Li from the Pointe-Claire Diving Club.
At the age of 18, Émilie won her first Olympic medal, a silver in 10M Synchro diving, with teammate Anne Montminy. She was the youngest medallist among all the Canadian athletes in Sydney.
She has won 6 Age Group and 2 Senior National titles, as well as 11 international medals. One of those medals is a gold medal at the 1997 Junior World Championships in 1997 on platform. She is only the 2nd Canadian Woman to accomplish that feat (Anne Montminy being the first).
Émilie won at the platform event the 1999 Pan Am Games with a new Canadian and Pan American record score of 550.98 points.
And she was the World Champion at the tower in 2003.
