This race is all about avoiding mechanical issues, and in the past, I’ve managed to do it quite well with a 1st and 3rd place. This year, 20 km into the race, I had to stop, motivated to fix what was wrong quickly, but the damage was too important to be able to keep riding (I tried). I would say that the feeling (that’s slowly fading away since last weekend) wasn’t anger, but rather sadness. After a challenging August & September, I really was looking forward to leaving it all out there on such a fun & thrilling course.
On a more positive note, there’s still some fun/work to do in 2023! I will fly to Belgian Waffle Ride Mexico to try to claim the BWR Quadruple Crown (I ’m 2nd in the standings as I write this).
