Thanks a Lot

Scott Martin

In the spirit of tomorrow's Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S., I'm taking time out from stuffing my piehole with, well, pie in order to reflect on some things for which I'm thankful :

I'm thankful that 2 of my friends who've broken their hips in cycling crashes in the last 2 months are on the mend, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for every day I'm healthy enough to ride, even if it's cold and wet, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for booties, Gore-Tex jackets, effective base layers and all the other fancy bad-weather clothing that keeps us going strong, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for my training partners who push me to get better even on those days when I'd rather take it easy, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for my recreational-cyclist friends who help me remember that cycling is fun and it's OK to stop and watch a sunset or feed a piehole, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful I've found a sport that lets me eat pretty much as much as I want without gaining weight, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for my beautiful 16-pound bike that dances uphill, flies back down and floats over rough roads, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for bumpy, twisty back roads that meander through the hills and woods and because of that don't get much traffic, which reminds me that

... I'm thankful for bike lanes and bike advocates who work to keep us all safe and healthy, which reminds me that

... I want to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving !
