Zero speed training, 2 weeks after Haliburton 50 miler, David was sick all week and I started feeling sick yesterday I had no expectations with the race. Just thought it would be fun to go for a long run in my hometown. I was kind of hoping for sub 4hrs, but had no idea if I could pull it off.
The weather was absolutely perfect. Lots of folks in the street to cheer us up, it was so much fun! I left Montreal in 2004, running all over the island brought back so many memories.
At 15km, the full split from the half and the ladies completely disappeared. I was feeling good. So I decided to play my all time favourite running game passing the guys !
I started speeding up and made good time. Saw the 3:50 bunny and thought he was way too slow. I knew then it would be a good day but refused to look at my watch.
The last 10k were though and I slowed down quite a bit, but I was still passing lots of runners. Finished in 3:37:16 !!! Holy crap I didn’t know I could run that fast! Third in my age group ! It wasn’t my A race, didn’t train for it and qualified for Boston on my first attempt I wasn’t even trying !
I don’t know the Boston rules, not sure if my time is fast enough for a qualified spot, but it doesn’t matter. My thrill was to qualify, not to actually run Boston
So super super happy with today, it was a real surprise! Now I feel I should actually properly train for a marathon distance and see by how much I can improve my time. Just bought an assault runner, perfect to get faster.
Big thanks to Mom & Dad for looking after David while I was running. They spent the whole morning refreshing the results page to follow my progress.
